Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a novel broadband access network using a number of stratospheric wireless communication platforms. This is a new wireless infrastracture, and consists of a wireless access system to user terminals in Ka-band and a mesh configured network using optical or mm-wave links. One platform covers 50km x 50km area with several tens of beams of an onboard multi-beam antenna. Thus, the cell size is almost as same as that of current cellular systems. This network can provide from several tens to several hundreds of Mbps access links and high-bit-rate wireless ATM network to subscribers.
