A Time-Based Batch One-Way Function Tree Method for Group Key Management

Abstract(in English) The recent emergence and popularity of group-oriented applications on the World Wide Web have triggered a demand for scalable security solutions of group communication. However, it has proven difficult to extend security to group communication applications such as IP multicast in a scalable manner. A major problem is the scalability of the group key management protocol. This paper explores the common problems of group key management and introduces scalable group key management method - One Way Function Tree (OFT). Based on it, we proposed a time-based batch OFT method, which executes membership changing operations on a timely basis. This new approach deals with large and dynamic groups more efficiently by avoiding waste of repeated calculations and rekey messages of the same node on the key tree.
