Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a new symmetric block cryptosystem "Hierocrypt" which has a two-level nested (recursive) SPN structure, where lower-level SPN structures are recursively embedded into S-box positions in SPN of the higher level. This Structure recuesively assures the minimum number of active S-boxes, and high security level is efficiently realized. The 8-round Hierocrypt is implemented in C language on Pentium III (550 Mhz), and shows the middle-class performance of AES candidates. As the security margin is very high and there seems to be the room for improvement, we conclude that Hierocrypt is an efficient algorithm. Hierocrypt was proposed to the Japanese national body of ISO / IEC / JTC1, as a candidate for stan-dard encryption algorithms. The document for proposition is appended as an appendix of this paper.
