Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Design of multilevel coded modulation with multistage and iterative decoding is discussed. Under certain practical situations, the suboptimality of multistage decoding can be recovered by the iterative decoding among constituent decoders which may perform as well as maximum likelihood decoding. Code design criteria assuming iterative decoding is thus substantially different from that for multistage decoding. Also. some of the codes are shown to actually approach the Shannon limit.
