A Method for Improving the Security of a Fast Public Key Encryption Scheme Presented by Itoh, Okamoto and Mambo at SAC'97

Abstract(in English) The public key cryptography(PKC) has a problem such that its encryption and decryption are very slow compared to other cryptosystems, since in the PKC protocols it needs the calculations of modular exponentiations of large integers. The fast public key encryption scheme presented by Itoh, Okamoto and Mambo(IOM scheme) is interesting because of its fast encryption and decryption speed. However, the IOM scheme has a security weakness. In this paper we propose a method for improviong the security of the IOM scheme by modifying definitions of public keys. Our proposed scheme has the same speed as the original IOM scheme.
