Abstract(in English) | It is known that trellis degeneration (TDG) is possible for a code trellis, if SST Viterbi decoding is applied to QLI codes. That is, for the purpose of finding the maximum-likelihood (ML) path, a considerable number of trellis sections can be cut away. In this paper, we show that TDG is also effective for symbol reliability estimation using the Soft-BIVA. Our idea lies in an observation that the TDG process has two functions, namely, early detection and trellis integration. Based on this observation, for an interval to which the TDG procedure having been applied, we calculate the reliability value for the integrated ML branch corresponding to the interval. |
