On M-ary/SSMA Systems using Soft Decision Viterbi Decoding

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we discuss M-ary/SS and SSMA systems, in which a convolutional code is applied before the M-ary/SS modulator at the transmitter and soft decision Viterbi decoding is used after the M-ary/SS demodulator at the receiver. First, we show the proposed system model and describe a soft decision method of M-ary/SS to apply for soft decision Viterbi decoding. Next, we evaluate the system performance in an AWGN environment by computer simulations. As a result, we show BER property of the proposed system is superior to that of a conventional simple M-ary/SS system for BER≦10^<-3> as a example, and is also superior to that of a DS/SS system using convolutional code when the spreading factor Fs becomes more than 21.O. Finally, we discuss the proposed M-ary/SS systems, and its improvements of required Eb/No for BER=10^<-3> and spectral efficiency compared with that of a conventional M-ary/SSMA are shown as a function of spreading factor.
