Analytical Known Plain-Text Attack for FEAL-6 Based on Bit-by-Bit Comparison

Abstract(in English) FEAL-N proposed by NTT is a N-round block cipher which is well suited for a fast software execution.At the last SCIS93 in Japan, we presented an analytical known plaintext attack on the FEAL-4 data randomizer.Since the round function f of FEAL has an inverse function f^-1>,we studied an attack using the inverse function f^ -1> and key-independent intermediate messages. In this paper we extend our attack by applying a key-independent "bit-by-bit" relation instead of "byte-by-byte" relation in order to calculate the key-independent intermediate messages.Simulation results of the proposed "bit-by-bit" attack clarify the improvemen t of the computational complexity to obtain the intermediate messages.
