Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes and investigates an unequal error-protection(UEP)system for multimedia information of which every medium has different importance and every segment of each medium can be classified to have different importance. It's named a layered UEP. In order to optimize it, semantic error probability is defined using importance of media and segments. Performance of the layered UEP is evaluated and compared with an equal error protection system which uses a single convolutional code with the same code rate as the proposed system. Theoritical and unmetrical analyses show that the proposed system can efficiently protect highly important medium and segment, and improve the semantic error probability.
