Development of the long life cold cathode fluorescent lamps with Y_2O_3 protective film

Abstract(in English) It has been recently spread the LCD panel applied for the Flat Display TV. Then, the cold cathode fluorescent lamps used for the LCD panel, are requested long life (high luminous maintenance factor) and low color sifting. In order to solve these problems, we examined forming protective films among phosphor particle and on phosphor surface by using the sol-gel method. Through investigation of selection material for protective film, we have eventually chosen yttrium oxide as the best material. And we optimized its process technology. This technology improves luminous maintenance factor of the lamps without falling initial luminance at all. We estimated that luminous maintenance factor achieves 60% or more at 70, 000hrs. Also, the technology can control color shifting.
