Abstract(in English) Ultrafast nonlinear propagation dynamics of intense 100 femtosecond laser pulses in gaseous media, especially Xe gas, were directly and non-invasively observed by using FTOP (Femtosecond Timeresolved Optical Polarigraphy). A novel method which can generate the instantaneous image of the crosssectional intensity distribution of light by using consecutive FTOP images was proposed and demonstrated. Furthermore, we succeeded in three dimensional measurement of the pulse propagation using the reconstructed images. As a result, whole propagation dynamics can be observed and an anomalous phenomenon, i. e., the generation of a ring structure in the cross-sectional intensity distribution of the optical pulse was found for the first time.
