Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We measured the viewing angle characteristics of polymer-stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal(PSFLC)devices which contain rigid polymer network in the liquid crystal. The devices exhibit spatial gray scale capability by the areal distribution of binary liquid crystal domains, which are separated by the fine polymer network. High contrast is obtained over wide viewing angles of more than 100゜ without any contrast inversion. Also we simulate the viewing angle characteristics for the in-plain switching mode, where liquid crystal molecules move in the plain parallel to the substrate. It turned out that the simulation shows the similar tendency to PSFLC devices. Wide viewing angle and high-speed gray scale capabilities should make PSFLC a promising electrooptic material for future moving picture displays.
