Abstract(in English) The reflective color LCD without a backlight is an important key device for the progress and diffusion of high functional portable information terminal. This paper has numerically analyzed the electro-optical properties of a new normally white mode reflective TNLCD composed of the previously proposed normally black mode reflective TNLCD and one liquid-crystal polymer film with a twist angle of the same magnitude, but with an opposite-handed to the LC layer. It was found that several sets of solutions exist for obtaining an achromatic image with high luminance as well as a high contrast ratio, and also found that the combination of an LC with a small dispersion of Δn_ and a retardation film with a large dispersion of Δn_R is preferable for obtaining a high contrast ratio.
