Green emitting phosphors with short decay time for plasma display panels

Abstract(in English) To improve a luminance saturation at high drive frequency, we poposed green emitting phosphor materials with short decay time for AC color plasma display panels. It was showen that the luminance saturation of the red and green practical PDP cells is caused by a long decay time of the phosphors. Green emitting SrAl_2O_4:Eu^<2+> phosphors were prepared, and their photoluminescent characteristics were measured. The decay time of SrAl_2O_4:Eu^<2+> is less than 2 μs, which is enough short for drivig at 50 kHz. Photoluminescence intensity measured under the excitation at 146 nm is about one half of that of the practical green PDP phosphors. These results indicate that SrAl_2O_4:Eu^<2+> is expected as efficient green PDP phospor.
