Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An improved "Address-while-Display" drive technique is introduced for 3-electrode, surface-discharge AC-PDPs. Both positive and negative display pulses are applied to display electrodes. Scan pulses, preerase pulses, and erase pulses are applied to address-display electrodes. By doing this, large capacity HV drivers become only necessary for the common display electrodes. A newly-introduced pre-erase pulse reduces the scan pulse voltage, and also light-emission duty is increased to 100%. By using the techniques, 8-bit HDTV images were dispalyed, with a white peak luminance of 840 cd/m^2.
