Electro-Optical properties of Reflective STN-LCDs with a Retardation Film.

Abstract(in English) In recent-years,bright and high resolution reflective LCDs without backlight for compact portable OA and AV equipments are strongly required.As a reply to this requirement,we have proposed a new achromatic reflective STN-LCD with one polarizer and one retardation film,in which the reflector is placed on rear substrate.The electro-optical properties of the cell are numerically analyzed and it is found from the result that high brightness as well as high contrast ratio are obtained by optimum designing of retardation film and device parameters,but that no such solutions are obtained without a retardation film.
