Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The paper describes how intelligent structure analysis and reproduction of mathematical formulas in scientific and technical document images can be performed by means of the structure rule of formulas. This rule is based on the attribute grammer. Here,we take two kinds of attributes:one is geometrical and the other semantic. The geometrical attribute consists of the character size, center position, subscript, superscript etc.,and the semantic attribute includes the font, type and so on.And also we deal with recognition of the character font which is meaningfull in mathematical formulas. After partition of the area of mathematical formulas, each character is segmented and its featurs are extracted. We take the slope and density as features, which are essential and usefull enough to classify a set of English letters with various fonts. As a result, its category and font can be identified with high accuracy and efficiency.
