Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have recently proposed a new OCB (optically compensated bend) mode, which shows wide viewing angles and fast response, by using a bend alignment liquid crystal cell and a biaxial film. However, at voltage-off state, the liquid crystal alignment in this cell becomes splay state. To change the alignment of the cell from splay to bend alignment at beginning, we have to apply an initializing voltage for a few seconds to a few minutes depending on various parameters. In this paper, we propose a solution of this problem, namely, a polymer stabilized bend alignment. It has been confirmed that the bend alignment at voltage-off state and the desired properties of the OCB-cell have been obtained.
