Visualization of a Molecular Orientation in a Liquid Crystal Device

Abstract(in English) For improvements in electro-optical properties of liquid crystal (LC) devices, it is important to clarify a molecular orientation state in the LC cell. In this paper, a novel observation method for a visualization of a molecular orientation state in the LC cell by using a UV curable LC material is proposed. A slice of LC layer is observed by using a polarization microscope. As a result, the molecular orientation states in a cross-section of the LC cell with a plane electrode and a slit-patterned electrode structure are visualized by using this method.
