Thin-Film Electroluminescent Devices using Mn-or Rare Earth-Activated CaO-Ga_2O_3 Phosphors

Abstract(in English) Thin-film electroluminescent (TFEL) devices using a new multicomponent oxide phosphor such as CaO-Ga_2O_3 have been developed. EL characteristics of TFEL devices with a (CaO-Ga_2O_3):Mn thin-film emitting layer prepared by rf magnetron sputtering were strongly dependent on the composition of the host material. Maximum luminances of 2790 (yellow emission), 215 (red emission), 30 (yellowish green emission), 16 (green emission), 6 (bluish white emission) or 2cd/m^2 (bluish white emission) were obtained in TFEL devices using a ternary compound CaGa_2O_4 activated with Mn, Dy, Tb, Tm or Ce, respectively, when driven by 1kHz ac sinusoidal wave voltage.
