Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We are investigating the important physical factors for the reproduction of the high order sensation in a display of images. Gamma has a close relationship to the reproduction of gradient and color. In this report, we discuss gamma in detail. We extend gamma definition of a constant value to non linear gamma which depend on signal level, and we propose a new expression of gamma curve. As a result of considering the extension, in the definition of television, non linear gamma is not a differential coefficient of the characteristic curve but a complicated function. And we reveal the relationship between gamma in the definition of television and photographic.
