Evaluation of traps in blue emission ZnS:Ag, Al phosphors for projection tubes

Abstract(in English) Projection TVs (PTVs) have been manufactured as home used displays with large screen. The development to achieve the thinner phosphor screen and the higher density of electron beam will realize the high resolution in projection tubes (PRTs). However, the life time and the luminous efficiency of many phosphors decreases greatly because these techniques make the excitation density increase. Especially, ZnS:Ag phosphors for the only material of blue emission phosphors in PRTs have a large problem of the luminous saturation. We measured the glow curves of ZnS:Ag phosphors accurately and evaluated the trap states. The observed glow curves have been analyzed by peak separation technique. The trap state associated with Al (coactivator) has the peak temperature at 144K. For the trap state associated with Al, the thermal energies were estimated to be 0.28eV in cubic-ZnS phosphors and 0.31eV in hexagonal-ZnS phosphors.
