Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A huge current of a lightning discharges radiates broad-band and large-amplitude electromagnetic pulses(spherics). Full-wave calculations of the propagation of these pulses have shown that they have characteristic spectral and waveform structures due to multiple reflections between the ionosphere and the ground, especially in the vicinity( < several hundred km) of the lightning. In this study we develop the system to locate lightning discharges by observing VLF spherics at a single site, on the basis of the propagation characteristics of the spherics.
