Compact Feeder Networks and the Design methods for Dual-Frequency Quadrifilar Helical Antennas

Abstract(in English) This report proposes compact feeder networks for small quadrifilar helical antennas, composed of novel dual-frequency impedance-matching networks and simple 4-way power divider employing transmission line T-junctions. The power divider, however, has poor isolation characteristics between output terminals and its transmission phase characteristics vary with frequency. So, frequency response of the power divider's characteristics and mutual couplings between helical radiating elements must be taken into consideration in design of the feeder networks. And a design method is proposed that impedance-matching networks are optimized by choosing return loss at input terminal of feeder networks, transmission loss in whole feeder networks, and excitation phase characteristics of helical radiating elements as objective functions. A dual-frequency antenna with the feeder networks attached has been fabricated on a cylindrical dielectric tube at S-band. It has given good radiation and return loss characteristics in agreement with calculated results.
