Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The built-in antenna presented in this paper has an extremely simple structure with a single three-quarter wavelength element, which has an impedance matching part. The antenna element can be considered to include two parts, an inverted F antenna (IFA) and a half wavelength monopole. On the view point of this consideration, the monopole is connected to the high impedance edge of the IFA. The advantage of this built-in antenna is that we can easily control its main polarization and radiation pattern by adjusting the location and direction of the monopole. In this paper, we apply the built-in antenna to a handy phone and a card radio terminal, and discuss their structures and radiation characteristics. When the handy phone was held in the talk position and the card radio terminal was worn on user's chest, we adjusted the antenna structures so that the maximum direction of the vertical polarization in the elevation patterns turned toward the horizontal direction. As a result, the pattern averaging gain (PAG) became between -3 dBd and -4.5 dBd, which was higher than those of the conventional antennas such as a planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) and a half-wavelength whip.
