Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An adaptive array concept with microwave signal processing is presented. The array weighting and signal combining are carried out on the microwave stage, while the decision and weight control are executed by DSP. Unlike conventional DBFs, it does not necessitate numbers of frequency converters and analog-to-digital converters but only one of each. The signal combining before A/D conversion offers 21 significantly wider dynamic range than DBFs. Also proposed hereby is a novel electronically steerable passive array radiator antenna or ESPAR antenna. Thanks to the varactor-loaded passive radiators, it offers full 360-degree beam steering, complete elimination of phase shifters, and single-port feeding.
