Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) MU radar observations in the troposphere and lower stratosphere detected both an isotropic turbulence echo due to Bragg scattering and a specular reflection echo from a horizontally stratified layer.Temperature profiles were simultanneously measured with a balloon-borne radiosonde, finding that the Brunt-Vaisala frequency, or an atmospheric stability,is a dominant factor of refractive index fluctuations in a dry atmospohere,e.g,in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. We also found that most of temperature perturbations in the lower atmosphere are attributed to atmospheric gravity waves. Therefore, for further studies on the characteristics of refractive index perturbations,it is necessary to consider the behavior of atmospheric gravity waves.
