Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Radiation efficiency and mean effective gain ( MEG ) characteristics of a half wavelength dipole antenna located near a human head heve been analyzed by the moment method in a multiple radio wave environment. A human body model comprises a left shoulder and a cylindrical head. Effects of the shoulder on radiation characteristics were investigated in detail by wire-grid analyses. The calculated results were confirmed by the experiments using a homogeneous human phantom. The wire-grid analyses also yielded radiation efficiency and MEG characteristic results regarding antenna polaization and antenna-head distance. The results indicate that MET shows as low as -9 dBd when a vertical or a horizontal dipole antenna is placed close to the head. As for the horizontal antenna the radiation pattern is found to be significantyl changed due to the existence of the shoulder. This effect results in larger MEG values compared with those calculated from a human model without the shoulder due to the enhancement in the radiation intensity in the high elevation angles. The results imply that the existence of the shoulder should be taken into account when evaluating the radiation characteristics of portable telephone antennas since they are commonly located near horizontal orientation under usual talk position.
