Congestion Control Scheme for Reliable Multicast Improving Intra-session Fairness with Network Support

Abstract(in English) In reliable multicast communications, congestion control and flow control is necessary for adjasting the sender's transmission rate to bandwidth of the bottleneck link or the slowest receivers. In this case, data transmission rate observed at all the receivers is restricted by the slowest receiver, even though some receivers has more capacity to receive data at higher rate. Fairness issues from this viewpoint is called "intra-session fairness". This paper proposes a new congestion control scheme which improves intra-session fairness by applying network support. The server located in the network behaves as the pseud-reciever to its upstream and as the pseud-sender to its downstreams. The server makes slow receivers below invisible to upstream servers and the sender. This enables receivers receiving data at their adequate transmission rates, which improves intra-session fairness. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme imploves intra-session fairness with increase of the number of servers located in the network.
