Abstract(in English) Search engines are built on technologies developed within the realm of information retrieval. However, they have evolved originally to cope with new problems arise from rapid expansion of the web. In this paper, we summarize inherent problems in web information retrieval and describe trends in technologies for search engines. Next, we describe new methods of sophisticating search engines by exploiting web users' quality judgement such as ranking schemes based on analysis of link structure of the web. Finally, we prospect for distributed information retrieval.
