Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Response time of WWW access is sum of network delay and server delay. In order to reduce the reponse time, this paper proposes a network architecture in which the control of the network and the caching are cooperated. Conventional approaches of independent control operations of these two result in limited performance improvement. The proposed network architecture is based on network caching, and is operated by not using passive caching but using proactive caching. It enables cache servers to intelligently pre-fetch contents while keeping network from congestion. This also leads to resource engineering, in which both network control and contents distribution control are well tuned to get the best caching performance. Layer 8 switch is also proposed as a key component of the caching network.
