Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes PON (Passive Optical Network) with high-layer functions aiming at downsizing of communication service functions. The proposed PON provides separated time slots for isochronous and IP communications. All upward IP packets are terminated at the ONU (Optical Network Unit), which conducts authentication and traffic control for each packet. Those packets are sent out each by each on a PON link consisting of IP communication slots, number of which at PON frame is dynamically changed to respond to traffic. The slot arrangement must be conducted at the low layer functions using a signaling slot, although signaling system is provided for the high layer functions. The PON frame cycle is 250 micro sec. The downward packets are broadcast to all ONUs, while OLT (Optical Line Terminal) as a central node of PON distributes each downward IP packet into each of slots dynamically allocated for each ONU. The PON can accommodate about 20 subscribers.
