Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the distributed multimedia application, the video transfer must be provided with consideration on the application level QoS requirements, such as the perceived video quality and the delay. From those points of view, we compare MPEG-2 CBR, VBR, intra-slice coding techniques The rate control algorithm employed in the CBR coding technique enables low delay video transfer at the sacrifice of stability of video quality. On the other hand, the VBR coding technique keeps the quality fluctuation small, but the coded video traffic has a highly bursty nature. The intra-slice coding is expected to achieve the low delay and high quality video transfer. However, the traffic rate dramatically changes when scene changes occur. Thorough simulation experiments, we have shown that the intra-slice coding technique outperforms than the others for the video transfer over the allocated bandwidth.
