Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The ATM-PON, of which standard has been being internationally discussed, includes only low-layer functions at ONU (Optical Network Unit). If it is used in the public network, it may entail some drawbacks. Call setup signals can be discarded before call processing respond to them. It is difficult to efficiently share ATM slots between ONU. This paper proposes distribution of high layer communication functions to each ONU, discussed its merits. It also presents PON architecture where slots for low-speed isochronous communications, and those for internet access are separated. Internet access packets are multiplexed frame by frame on the slots. They are carried with frame relay communications. It also describes control signal conversations between ONU and OLT of PON for efficient share of slots between ONUs. |
