Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Very-Long-Baseline Interferometer has been a powerful tool in radio astronomical observations since the late of 1960s. It is a radio telescope array formed by several radio telescopes remotely separated over the world. In 1997, the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science successfully launched a space orbiting telescope, the HALCA for international space VLBI mission. By this a VLBI network is now extended to the space beyond the limitation in the size of earth's diameter. In the current VLBI, data is once recorded on magnetic tapes then reproduced and synthesized with a correlation processor. Ultra-high-speed optical data transmission will open a new great possibility in VLBI astronomy.
