A Cell Loss Approximation for Heterogeneous ATM Traffic through the Approach of the Orthogonal Projection to the Linear Subspace

Abstract(in English) This paper describes development of a cell loss approximation model for heterogeneous ATM traffic through the approach of projection to a subspace which has been used for pattern recognitions and signal processing. This approximation model can be applied to heterogeneous traffic of which burst lengths are subject to General processes and does not bring explosion of calculation for increase of traffic types. In this model, the distribution of cell arrival rate was approximated with an orthogonal projection to the subspace spanned with a binomial distribution which was the kernel for Edegeworth expansion, and the distribution of queue length was approximated with an orthogonal projection to the subspace spanned with exponential distributions. The comparisons with simulation in which burst lengths were subject to Γ-distributions and constant distributions showed that cell loss probabilities of this model were within or close to 95% confidence intervals.
