Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a concept of a distributed object-oriented network architecture DONA to meet various requirements for the network such as economy, flexibility, high-performance and functional advancement. DONA utilizes high-performance processor and network-wide distributed processing technologies to make the node system to be physically separated into the control subsystem and the switch subsystem and then allows the high-performance control subsystem to control multiple remote switch subsystems. DONA also provides the location transparency environment which hides from application programs the difference between inter-node and intra-node communications. Several promising example applications, employing DONA, and DONA's predominance over the conventional architecture are discussed.
