Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A novel ATM block transfer technique to construct connectionless networks is proposed in this paper. The ATM block transfer technique achieves connectionless datagram delivery using the logical transmission unit, called ATM block, which is comprised of a group of cells corresponding an upper layer datagram such as IP packet. The features of the proposed technique are two fold. One is that it can provide more effective multiplexing capability by the selective block discarding scheme based on the traffic information (block cell rate and block size) in the leading cell of the ATM block. The other is that it can achieve congestion avoidance and fair sharing of resources by the combination of the function of the Gatekeeper and the selective block discarding performed at network nodes. This paper shows the several simulation results which support the effectivenss of the proposed technique, and also discusses implementation issues.
