Abstract(in English) Since some time ago, the authors have been making experiments for developing methods for measuring deformation and temperature of civil structures and ground by BOTDR technology. Recently. In order to measure the effect of the underground railway construction on an adjoining NTT's telecommunications cable tunnel, we have installed a tunnel monitoring system by BOTDR technology. The development of that system has not only improved the accuracy of measurement , which had long been one of the main concerns of the people involved, and the installation work efficiency for optical fiber sensor, but also is supported by a brand new monitoring software which enable easy recognition of deformation. After the completion of system installation, we operated the system ourselves to confirm the effectiveness of tunnel monitoring system by BOTDR technology.
