Transmission Characteristic of Discrete Fiber Raman Amplifiers Employing Highly Nonlinear Fibers

Abstract(in English) A single-stage discrete fiber Raman amplifier (FRA) with the net gain of 20dB and the noise figure (NF) of 5.5dB is constructed utilizing the highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) with the nonlinear coefficient of 21[1/W/km] and the dispersion of -26.0, -18.7, -13.6, -9.4 and 1.8[ps/nm/km]. In the 8-channel 10Gbps signal transmission, no impairment has been observed for the output power of up to +8dBm/ch in the case of the dispersion of -26[ps/nm/km]. And we showed that SPM&XPM in the discrete Raman amplifier utilizing HNLF are less influential on WDN signal transmission than FWM.
