Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigated a method to suppress polarization-dependent loss(PDL) in long-period fiber gratings(LPFGs). We studied the origin of PDL and proposed the rotating UV exposure technique from right-angled directions to suppress the UV-induced birefringence and to realize low-PDL LPFGs. By using this technique and low birefringent fiber together, PDL of LPFGs can be reduced to a sufficiently low level required in high performance communication systems. Moreover, validity of our theoretical modeling is confirmed by the experimental results.
