Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) FDTD method is now one of the most frequently used tool to simulate various characteristics of photonic crystals and photonic crystal waveguides such as dispersion curves. However, even for estimating rough features of the curves, it requires substantial computational powers and time, as one has to repeat calculation for every propagation constant. In this report, we present a variational expression for ω^2 of photonic crystals, and demonstrate that by combining the expression with conventional FDTD algorithm, the feature of dispersion curves of photonic crystals can be efficiently obtained.
