Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The laser performance of highly neodyrnium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) crystals was reported. The crystals were grown using the temperature gradient technique. A slope efficiency of 64% was exhibited for the 2 at. % doped sample under pulsed-Ti:sapphire pumping. Such a high efficiency suggested a total cavity loss of ~1 %, which is as low as that of the commercia11y available 1 at. % , YAG crystal. The excellent performance indicates the high optical quality of the crystals. In cw-LD pumping, the 2 at. % sample achieved a slope efficiency of 54 %, which was comparable with that of 55 % for YVO_4.
