Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The lasing characteristics of a Brillouin/erbium optical fiber laser (BEFL) are described. The feature of this laser is that the Brillouin gain in an optical fiber is amplified by an erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier (EDFA), and the small Brillouin gain is effciently used for laser oscillation. The experimental results show that the BEFL has a threshold against the Brillouin pump power, and above the Brillouin threshold, the output power of the BEFL increases with increasing the pump power to the EDFA. The BEFL oscillate in a single longitudinal mode, and the spectral linewidth is measured to be less than 5 kHz, which is two orders of magnitude narrower than that of the Brillouin pump laser.
