Abstract(in English) We have proposed a novel fiber alignment method using a partially metal-coated fiber (PMC fiber) in a silicon V-groove. A PMC fiber is a fiber whose side is partially metal-coated, and the core of PMC fiber can be regarded to be eccentric with respect to the outside of PMC fiber. Therefore, the fiber-core position can be aligned by roating the PMC fiber in the silicon V-groove. LD sub-modules,that were fabricated by using this alignment method have high coupling efficiency as-1.2IdB (maximum) and -2.72dB (average of 28samples). Owing to our fiber alignment method, large power budget could be obtained and 2.5-Gbit/s signal was successfully transmitted over 100-Km without using any optical amplifiers.
