Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The noise figure (NF) of a semiconductor optical amplifier is evaluated, focusing on its input-power dependence, for application to a Tb/s optical packet/cell-based switching fabric. Clearly, the equivalent population inversion factor can be used to estimate the NF, even within the gain saturation region. This SOA gate module is applicable to Tb/s optical packet/cell-based optical switching systems based upon our estimation of the power margin at the required bit error rate.
