Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Traveling wave amplifiers operating in the microwave to optical regions by help of the electron beam excitation with several KV were theoretically proposed. The electro-magnetic (EM) wave propagates along a dielectric waveguide having a corrugated shape whose periodic pitch is much shorter than the wavelength of the EM wave. The EM wave partly penetrates in to the vacuum and is excited by the electron beam. Since phase variation of the EM wave is modulated with the pitch of the corrugated waveguide, the wavenumber of the EM wave is equivalently increased resulting in the amplification with lower operating voltage such as 3KV. The amplifier has the property of unidirectional amplification in itself. The amplifier also works as an oscillator when we added another corrugated shape on the waveguide as the Bragg type reflector.
