Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) By making use of refractive index controllable-nature of luminescent porous silicon (PS), optical waveguides were fabricated on the silicon substrate by simple monolithic processing. Visible lightwaves were successfully confined and guided. The bent PS waveguides with a small curvature of micron order can be fabricated, since the difference in refractive index of the core and the cladding layer is considerably large. PS-based Fabry-Perot resonators (PS-FPRs) were fabricated by a modulation technique of the refractive index. It is noted that the interestirrg hysteresis phenomena were observed in the transmission-excitation curve at wavelengths around the resonance position. This nonlinear effect can be explained as a result of a nonlinear refractive index change. These results indicate that the PS optical devices are available for the silicon-based opto-electronic integrations.
