Alignment-Free Optical Coupling of 2-D Array Optical Devices Using Micro Optical Bench (MOB) Scheme

Abstract(in English) The parallel optical data transmission is becoming more important for advanced optical network systems, optical information processing, and so on. In such systems, arrayed components should be interconnected. In this paper, we fabricated a micro optical bench (MOB) designed for completely passive allgnment of optical components, such as vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs), planar microlenses (PMLs), and so on. The optical coupling loss of less than 3dB between lx4 PML and single mode fibers was achieved For the purpose of realizing a 2-dimensinal optical module, we proposed a packaging method of VCSEL array on MOB using a laser submounts and 2-D optical fiber array using Si spacer.
