Abstract(in English) This report discusses electro-magnetic field analyses, which are used for the design of optical waveguide devices, and also describes the actual device design. As analysis methods, we focus on the combination of the finite-element method and 3-D semi-vectrial beam propagation method for the design of the spot-size-converter-integrated laser diodes, the bi-directional method-of-line beam propagation method for the facet reflectivity analysis, and the full-vectorial finite element method for the design of the electrode of the taveling-wave electro-absorption modulator. This report also discusses the newly developed semi-vectorial and full-vectorial finite element methods for the 2-D cross-sectional analysis of the optical waveguides.
